A Classic European influenced Family Home

“I want a faux Fireplace in my Living Room and a TV in a transition space”- These words, spoken by the client at the initial interaction, set the stage for an interesting challenge for “The Mustard Niché”.

As The Best Interior Designers in Bangalore will tell you – a Design challenge is always exciting. Pushing the envelope is what fuels creativity and results in innovations that are stunning yet functional. One such project is this Gorgeous 3 Bedroom Apartment Home in Whitefield Bangalore.

Client Profile: Mature couple with teenaged sons, acquiring their SECOND and FOREVER home.

Design Style: An eclectic mix of majorly European influences and modern Indian vibes.

Scope of work: End to end Interiors including – structural changes, Electrical, Carpentry (fixed and movable furniture), False Ceilings, Colour Consultancy, Soft Furnishings and Lighting Design.

The Process: Intense Discussions with clients, led to creation of mood-boards for each specific area of the home, which then helped crystallize the design ethos. 2D AutoCAD drawings and 3D renderings were used to aid this process and finalize the designs.

Time Line: Design Process – 6 weeks, on-site Execution – 14 weeks from inception to handover.

Highlights:

  1. A) The Living/Dining Area: – The ‘Fireplace’ is the focal point of this space. A simple, elegant design, it dominates the West Wall, yet, the use of a predominantly lighter colour palette helps bring in subtlety. A coffered ceiling, designed to mimic classical European homes, has ample lighting options, and helps to create a flow of the look into the Dining area. A beautiful sandstone – clad wall, customized window treatments, bespoke customized furniture and accessories contribute to creating the luxurious, European-influenced look.

B) The Kitchen: – In a combination of Warm Oak Veneer and white Duco-finished cabinetry, with Shaker-style cabinet fascia, sparkly quartz counter –tops and marble-look back-splash tiles – the kitchen has a bright and spacious vibe. The Mandir /Pooja, which is located within the kitchen space, is demarcated by false-ceiling detailing and beautiful CNC router-cut panels.

The island serves multiple purposes – extra prep-surface, breakfast counter, Storage. The best part is, it is on heavy-duty wheels, and can be moved out of the kitchen, when the family is hosting Poojas and celebrations.

This is a kitchen that packs in a ton of storage, has clearly demarcated spaces for a built-in Oven, a large refrigerator (36”wide) and other kitchen necessities.

  1. C) The Family Area: – Originally, this was a transition space – a corridor between the public and more private areas of the home. The Client’s need was to convert this into a TV-viewing, ‘family’ area. The design style adopted here, is more ‘contemporary’ and cozy. A hand-painted burnished Gold ceiling and accent wall, a TV panel in a deep Cyan, with groove detailing, comfortable sectional and mood-lighting create the perfect cozy ambience for a family-hangout space.

D) The Sons’ Room: – This is a place that belongs to two young boys, on the threshold of adulthood. It reflects their PASSION- for music and soccer, and their DREAM – to travel the world. A Large CNC router –cut work ‘WORLD MAP” mural is the focal point of this room and is affixed on a cheery yellow wall. Walnut veneer and White Duco-painted Cabinetry, nautical striped window treatments, Individual beds with ample Storage and a study area tucked under the plate-glass window – bring the ‘boys –room’ vibe to life.
